The extension of Highway 19 between Laval and Bois-des-Filion will increase traffic on Papineau Avenue, which is already heavily congested, consequently increasing the number of accidents involving pedestrians, reducing air quality, and hurting local businesses.
Everyone knows that this increased traffic will overflow onto residential streets near Papineau Avenue, altering the safety and tranquility of adjacent neighbourhoods.
To top it off, the A-19 extension will cost $600 million for 8 kilometres of highway, which is three times the cost per trip of the Laval metro extension. This money should instead be invested in maintaining existing infrastructure as well as the improvement of public transportation.
The A-19 extension is a waste of public money that will only hurt our quality of life. Despite this, Mayor Coderre has given his support to the project. Help us convince him to change his mind.
